Brickyard Pond/Veterans Memorial Park, Barrington, RI

It was a nice, warm morning starting at 8:07am with a temperature in the mid
60s. First bird observed was an Osprey on nest in the softball field.
Orioles were busy completing their nests and we watched the nests moving as
either finishing touches or eggs were being added. Along the lake shore we
watched more Ospreys successfully diving for fish. Other birds with a fish
breakfast on their mind included many Double-crested Cormorants, at least 4
Great Blue Herons, and a Black-crowned Night-Heron. We also observed a
Belted Kingfisher coming back and forth to the same clay bank. On the trails
heading into the woods, there were a number of American Redstarts and a pair
of Warbling Vireos constructing a nest. At one point, the male joined the
female at the partially completed nest. Close to the end, an Eastern
Wood-Pewee was heard calling very loudly along one of the main trails and
was eventually located and seen for several minutes before flying off. A
Cooper's Hawk was briefly seen by the boat ramp at the beginning of the trip
and then seen flying low over the YMCA parking lot as the last of us made it
back from the walk.
