OSBC Orgin
Starting in April 2013, and after months of meetings, discussions, research and planning, the Ocean State Bird Club became a reality. Responding to an expressed desire to have a bird club in RI, a group of committed volunteers including the leadership team and Alexandra Allardt, Don Heitzmann, Marc Gousie, Danielle Gousie, Strickland Wheelock and Jeff Hall got together to make it happen. Together, we finalized a name and logo for a bird club that represents RI and Southeast New England. By-laws have been written and on June 3, 2014 Articles of Incorporation as a non-profit were filed with the state of Rhode Island. We are collaborating with the Audubon Society of RI, the Norman Bird Sanctuary, the RI Natural History Survey, and continue reaching out to other environmental organizations and bird clubs. Officers and a Board of Directors have been selected; this website has been developed and published. Events were held during the 2014 Spring birding season, and continue to be planned for the coming months.
The OSBC’s goal is to provide opportunities for birders in Southeast New England to connect with one another through their common interest in birding, and to support the well-being of our avian friends. All are invited to become members.
