Ocean State Bird Club Walk Guidelines

The Ocean State Bird Club follows and promotes the American Birding Association’s Birding Code of Ethics and all leaders and participants must follow these simple rules as well. The code of ethics can be found here - ABA Code of Ethics

For Participants: Before the night of a trip, check the weather and dress accordingly (layers are always best). If the forecast calls for inclement weather, check your e-mail before you leave to see if the trip is still running. Remember to check the trip details for any special notes such as a difficult amount of walking, if carpooling may be required, if you should pack a lunch, or any other comments the leader may have. If you have any questions, please contact the leader.

For Leaders: If you’d like to lead a trip, send an e-mail to [email protected]. Make sure to include any comments that participants should know, such as the possibility of a difficult amount of walking, if a scope would be helpful, if Hunter Orange is required, or any other notes participants should know. Please try to arrive 15 minutes before the start time to greet participants. If you must cancel the trip, send an e-mail to the walk participants the night before the trip and contact the club. Please consider having a back-up leader if you are unable to make the walk. If you would like a co-leader, we can try to arrange that for you.  After your walk, send the trip coordinator a short description of the trip, the number of participants, the species list (numbers of individuals not necessary), and any highlights you’d like to share.
