Six of us hardy souls braved wind, rain and snow and mud at Cumberland Farm Fields Saturday morning. The weather suppressed most land birds, but we discovered several duck species either flying over or gliding in the vernal pools formed by the melting snow. In addition to Canada Geese, Black Duck, abd Mallards, we had Ring-necked Duck, Wood Duck, Green-winged Teal, Northern Pintail, Gadwall, and flyover Common Merganser. In addition, we saw Northern Harrier, FOY Tree Swallows, Killdeer, and Great Blue Herons as well as the more common birds.
