Birding the SE MA Bioreserve with OSBC Board Member Lynn Abbey
Tuesday mornings year round at 8 am
Corner of Wilson Rd. and Riggenbach Rd. in Fall River, MA
Join OSBC board member Lynn Abbey on her ongoing Tuesday morning bird walks. Currently the group meets at 8 am at the corner of Wilson Rd and Riggenbach Rd, Fall River (near the Industrial Park and north end of Watuppa Reservoir).
The Southeastern Massachusetts Bioreserve has been designated an Important Bird Area by MA Audubon. The Bioreserve is a large area of protected land just east of downtown Fall River. It includes over 13,600 acres managed by MA Dept of Conservation and Recreation, Freetown SF), Trustees of Reservations (Copicut Woods), the City of Fall River (the Copicut and Watuppa watershed) and MA Wildlife Management. The major habitat includes northern hardwoods forest, oak-conifer forest, pitch pine/scrub oak, early successional shrubland, power line, shrub-scrub wetland, river/stream, and pond/reservoir.
Lynn Abbey first became familiar with the Bioreserve when she surveyed 6 blocks for the MA Breeding Bird Atlas 2 (2008-2011). A very underutilized - and underbirded area- she is eager to share this open space with birders. “We explore different areas, with a mixture of trail walkiing and stopping along very rough dirt roads. We always have fun!”
Please email Lynn Abbey at [email protected] or call 774-488-4096 for current time and meeting place.
