(Date Change) October 9, Thursday. Block Island. All Day

We will bird the north side of Block Island searching for land birds in one of RI’s premier Fall Birding spots! We’ll take the 8am Fast Ferry out of Point Judith and return on the 4:30 pm ferry. From there, we’ll split a cab to the north side of the island. Bring food and drink and be ready to walk.

Date Change... Because of potential rain, the Big Sit event will now take place on Sunday October 12.

Bird Watcher’s Digest Big Sit!

Join Ocean State Bird Club members as we see how many species we can record from within a 17ft circle (birders are in the circle, birds can be outside). If you want to be gung-ho, you can come predawn to help record land birds as they fly over head or try to redirect themselves and head north instead of flying out over the ocean. Or come at sunrise to look for warblers and sparrows in the thickets. Maybe stop by around noon for a picnic, hawk watch and sea watch. Visit any time during the day to hang out with other birders and help us rack up the species! This is a world-wide event, so stop by anytime to help us make a good impression.

The circle will be located near Lot #3

October 18, Saturday. Westport, Ma area. 7am All Day Trip

We will begin with a sea and sky watch from the Horseneck Beach parking lot. This area acts as a migrant trap for landbirds, so we will be looking overhead (and on the ground) for migrant passerines and raptors as well as looking for ocean birds over Buzzards Bay. After, we’ll walk the reserve and search for landbirds in the thickets and shorebirds on the shore. We’ll also visit the nearby Allens Pond Mass Audubon property. This is an exciting time to go birding with Fall Migration in full swing!

Meet at Horseneck Beach Parking Area at 7am
