October 10, rain date on the 11th
Bird Watcher’s Digest Big Sit! At Beavertail State Park, Jamestown.

Join Ocean State Bird Club members as we see how many species we can record from within a 17ft circle (birders are in the circle, birds can be outside). If you want to be gung-ho, you can come predawn to help record land birds as they fly over head or try to redirect themselves and head north instead of flying out over the ocean. Or come at sunrise to look for warblers and sparrows in the thickets. Maybe stop by around noon for a picnic, hawk watch and sea watch. Visit any time during the day to hang out with other birders and help us rack up the species! This is a world-wide event, so stop by anytime to help us make a good impression.

The circle will be located near Lot #3

October 17, Saturday
Ninigret NWR, Charlestown. 7:30am. Morning only

We will walk the ‘whole loop’ as well as take a trip to Grassy Point for views of the pond itself. The loop is about 3.5 – 4 miles on flat terrain and covers some good successional habitat as well as grassland, shrub, forest, and small amount of wetlands. This varied habitat allows for a good chance for some great species.

Meeting location: Ninigret NWR lot near the airstrip, across from the restrooms.

October 23, Friday.
Brickyard Pond, Barrington. 8:00-10:00am (Rain date of October 30)

Join us as we explore Brickyard Pond for fall migrants and arriving winter residents. Once the center of Rhode Island's brick-making industry, the lake is now the center of a 230 acre conservation area providing varied habitats for migrating and resident waterfowl, wading birds, and songbirds. The walk is mostly level and the trails are well marked. Some areas can become a bit muddy after a good rain and there is plenty of poison ivy in spots.

Meeting location: We will meet by the front gate, located to the right of the Bayside YMCA, 70 West St, Barrington, RI. There is limited parking inside Veterans Memorial Park but there is plenty of parking towards the back of the YMCA parking lot if needed.
