November 16, Sunday
Sachuest Point NWR, Middletown. 9am. Morning Trip

Sachuest National Wildlife Refuge in Middletown RI is the premiere spot for winter duck watching. November is the beginning of the season to look for a variety of scoters, eiders, loons, grebes and other ducks…none finer than the tough, little Harlequins. Dress warmly and bring scopes if you have them.

Leader: Lauren Parmelee - Lauren428@yahoo.com

November 22, Saturday
Wild Birds Unlimited in Warwick, 10Am – 2 pm.
Optics Day at Wild Birds Unlimited with Swarovski Optik.

Wild Birds Unlimited in Warwick invites Birders to come and experience a hands-on demonstration of the latest optics from Swarovski Optik. One of the most important piece of equipment a birder requires is a good pair of binoculars with fine glass and quality light transmission. Choosing the right binoculars for your personal use requires some trial and research. Advancements in lens coatings can mean the difference between identifying a bird or missing the markings.

Wild Birds Unlimited carries several brands of optics and is an authorized Swarovski dealer. They have invited a representative from Swarovski Optik to show the whole range of birding optics from their company on Saturday the 22nd of November between 10 and 2. Stop in during that time and talk one on one with the Swarovski representative and the optics specialist in the store. Swarovski not only sells great binoculars but they make the most versatile birding scope on the market.

Stop by and learn what the numbers mean that define a good pair of optics. Try out the other brands that are offered for comparison.

December 6, Saturday
Hawk Identification Program
Seekonk Public Library 10am - 11:30am

Please join the OSBC and Mike Tucker for this Power Point presentation aimed at helping you identify the many hawk species we find this time of year.  We will talk about both physical and behavorial characteristics of identification.  Everything from shape, proportions, wing posture, how they flap and more will be discussed.  Seeing a hawk swooping quickly by you doesn't need to be chalked up as "some sort of hawk" any more.  We'll help you demystify these spectacular birds of prey.

Leader:  Mike Tucker

December 13, Saturday
Jamestown area. 8am - noon

(please not date change)

We will bird several locations around Jamestown including Beavertail and Fort Getty in search of winter ducks, grebes, alcids, and over-wintering land birds. We will meet at Beavertail State Park in Lot #3 at 8am.

Dress warmly and bring a scope if you have one.
