Newport County Migrant Traps

November is the time for rare and uncommon migrants in New England. In Rhode Island these species are drawn most frequently to several coastal sites many of which are found in Newport County. We will caravan across the county searching several well know migrant traps including but not limited to Beavertail State Park, Brenton Point State Park and Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge. This trip should provide a robust mix of common waterbirds and songbirds along the way as we search for the generally uncommon and downright rare species these sites are known for. For this trip we will have to cross the Newport Bridge which has a $4.00 toll each way. in order to make the trip more accessible participants should plan to car pool.

Leader: Matt Schenck, mschenckee@gmail.com

Meeting location: Beavertail State Park, parking lot 3 (east side of the lighthouse).
