ASRI Cape Ann Winter Birding Van Trip

Cape Ann, Massachusetts 

Cape Ann, Massachusetts, is a historic fishing community, known for a great diversity of wintering sea birds. Razorbills, Dovekies, murres, guillemots, white-winged gulls, and other such species have been spotted in the past. Join Audubon volunteer Don Heitzmann for a day of exploring Cape Ann hotspots including Gloucester Harbor, Eastern Point, Andrews and Halibut Points, and others. Dress very warmly for brisk winter seacoast weather; bring lunch and optics, including a scope if you have one. We will stop for picnic-style lunch at scenic Rockport harbor.

Aquidneck Island Waterfowl Tour
Newport, Middletown, & Portsmouth

From rocky & sandy shorelines to large ponds & reservoirs Aquidneck Island boosts a long list of migrant ducks and waterbirds. On this trip we will carpool across the island visiting locations in all three towns in search of as many ducks and geese as we can find.

ASRI Woodcock Walk at Caratunk

Seekonk, Massachusetts

Spring is in the air and so are the Woodcocks! Join Audubon on a walk to observe the American Woodcock as they embark on their unique and enchanting courtship display. The hike begins at dusk, so this program is not for young children. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes and warm, dark clothing. Bring binoculars, a flashlight, bug repellent and water. Flash photography is not allowed.

Tiverton Birding Hotspots

Tiverton

Explore one of Rhode Island's eastern most towns in search of early migrants and lingering winter species with the Ocean State Bird Club. Nestled along the eastern shore of the Sakonnet River Tiverton's mix of coastal marshes, open fields, and woodlots provides a diverse array of habitats for resident and migratory birds and has attracted regional and state level rarities in the past.

Norman Bird Sanctuary Woodcock Walk

Middletown

Witness the American Woodcock’s fascinating “sky dance” mating display on a twilight walk through the woodland-bordered fields and learn more about the special adaptations of this elusive woodland shorebird. The woodcock’s aerial acrobatics is a reminder that spring is on its way! Recommended for ages 6 and up

Hesitant to join our regular birding walks? Concerned that you're the only beginner? This walk is for you and all your beginning birding friends. Build your skills and confidence identifying common backyard birds by sight and sound at this unique Conanicut Island Land Trust Property.
