Kayak Birding on Brickyard Pond
Barrington
Join us for a fun kayaking and birding experience. Brickyard pond is an 84 acre pond in Barrington, largely bordered by Veterans Memorial Park. Despite its suburban setting it feels surprisingly wild. The pond has many coves to poke into and islands to paddle around.
We will use the put-in is on the west side of the pond accessed by Legion Way off of Middle Highway. There is a paved parking lot and a boat ramp consisting of the natural gravel shoreline. Black Crowned Night herons, Green and Great Blue herons, and nesting Osprey can be seen here along with other water fowl and songbirds. This will be an easy paddle – no currents.
Additional Information: You must bring your own kayak along with life jacket. It's also a good idea to bring binoculars, water, hat, sun block and insect repellent. One extra kayak is available but must be arranged ahead of time with the leader
