Beavertail State Park Winter Bird Walk
Jamestown, RI

Please join Chris and Candy Powell for a winter bird walk at Beavertail State Park. We will meet at parking lot #2 which is the 2nd lot as you enter the park and the last one before the point on the west side.  We will walk the perimeter of Beavertail Point, looking for the usual winter waterfowl - Harlequin Ducks, Common Goldeneyes, Black (usually heard “singing”), Surf and possibly White-winged Scoters, Red-breasted Mergansers, Horned Grebes, Common and Red-throated Loons, Common Eider, Purple Sandpipers and if we are lucky Razorbills or other alcids and Northern Gannets.  Weather date will be the following day and will be posted on the Ocean State Bird Club website by 5 PM Saturday.  Please dress warmly as Beavertail point is always colder than you think it will be!

Sakonnet Greenway Trail
Middletown, RI

The Sakonnet Greenway Trail at 10 miles in length is the longest nature trail on Aquidneck Island. Managed and protected by the Aquidneck Land Trust this multi use trail passes through multiple habitats in Middletown and Portsmouth. We will meet at the Wyatt Road Soccer Complex and hike the Middletown Southern Loop in search of Sparrows, Bluebirds, Blackbirds and other winter residents that take shelter in the trails shrubby edges and feed in the open fields and wetlands. Although this 3 mile section of the trail is a wide even walking path it does have some places that can be quite muddy so plan your footwear accordingly.
