Volunteer Work Day at Norman Bird Sanctuary
Middletown

Each year Norman Bird Sanctuary puts out over 300 Tree Swallow boxes in their grassland restoration area. Join us for a volunteer work day to help move and set up the boxes so hundreds of Tree Swallows, House Wrens, and Eastern Bluebirds will have a place to nest this summer! Participants can expect to be doing basic tasks including but not limited to; moving boxes with a wheelbarrow, and attaching boxes to posts with a screw driver. Other more labor intensive tasks include using a post driver to pound in posts.

Lunch: A pizza lunch will be provided by The Ocean State Bird Club, please notify the event coordinator (contact info below) if you have any dietary restrictions.

Event Coordinator: Susan Schenck--[email protected]

Bird Walk at Great Swamp Management Area

South Kingstown

Great Swamp is a 3,349 acre management area  managed by the D.E.M. It has an array of habitats including swamp, a man-made impoundment, woodland edge, as well as a powerline cut. April is the premiere time of year to go to Great Swamp, due to the increase in migratory birds, and temperatures that are too cold for the biting flies that inhabit the swamp during the summer. We will walk the 4.3 mile loop around the impoundment as we search for early migrating warblers, waterfowl, shorebirds, and more.

Meeting location: We will meet in the large, dirt parking lot at the end of Great Neck Road. FYI: the latter part of the road is a dirt road. (click here for google maps directions)
