Biographical Background
As both a bird watcher and environmental educator with both youth and adults, Alex Dunn has long grappled with the question, "how do we learn and what do we gain from becoming a bird watcher?" Using lessons from his field and teaching experiences, and drawing on learning theory, Alex will explore how bird watching can lead people of all ages to a broader understanding of nature and a better appreciation of critical environmental issues.

Biographical Background

Using lessons from his field and teaching experiences, and drawing on learning theory, Alex will explore how bird watching can lead people of all ages to a broader understanding of nature and a better appreciation of critical environmental issues.
Alexander Dunn is a writer, educator, naturalist and lifelong birdwatcher who has been working in the informal education field for over ten years. His academic background reflects a fascination with the interplay of culture and nature. He has a B.A. in Creative Writing from Western Washington University and a M.Ed. from Lesley University in Museum Education and place-based learning. His professional experience includes work with museums -- the Anacortes History Museum, Worcester Art Museum, the EcoTarium: a Museum of Science and Nature, and with Mass Audubon. He has taught in numerous schools and developed and led teacher professional development. He currently serves on both the Massachusetts and New England Environmental Education professional groups and is an Environmental Educator and Natural History Guide for Mass Audubon.
